Anritsu Case Study
Streamlining Global Export Compliance
Anritsu, a global provider of communications and related equipment, sought ways to comply with multiple regulatory mandates while improving operational efficiency.
Global Export Challenges
Anritsu Company, which sells test and measurement solutions, devices, and components used in the telecommunications, optical, and wireless industries, has customers throughout the world. Business expansion and tighter regulatory requirements increased the time required for restricted-party list compilation and screening, license requirement determination, and end-use screening, increasing the risk of noncompliance and reducing staff productivity.
As a result, Anritsu decided to replace manual screening with an automated process that would provide screening consistency across the company’s global shipping locations.
Selecting TradeBeam
Seeking a global, cross-functional technology solution, Anritsu chose a Web-based, hosted export compliance system from TradeBeam. Anritsu integrated the TradeBeam system into its multiple ERP solutions, enabling automated screening in the United States and Canada, while letting offices in other regions access the system via a Web browser to perform manual screenings.
Automated Screening
In North America, Anritsu now has automated “lights out” screening throughout the quote-to-ship cycle, including at order quotation, order placement, order amendment, and time of shipment. When an event occurs, Anritsu’s ERP system automatically sends an XML file to the TradeBeam system, which screens the transaction for restricted parties, licensing requirements at the line item level, and customer use.
At each point, the TradeBeam system clears or fails the screening. If an issue arises, the ERP system automatically puts the order on hold. The compliance department is notified and staff can use the system to further investigate the issue, then clear or reject the order. Automated screening relieves staff of manual tasks, and ensures accuracy and consistency, reducing the risk of compliance violations, establishing a fully auditable process, and eliminating mistakes associated with Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCNs).
